The race at the Clay Pigeon circuit proved to be one of the most promising yet, with two third places and a fourth in the qualifying heats, Eddie lined up 10th on the grid in the A final.
The day got off to a brilliant start when Eddie climbed from 15th on the grid to finish fourth on the track in heat 1. He was promoted to third after Kieran McCullough was given a penalty.
His second heat was also a good one. Starting in seventh, Eddie lost places at the start, getting squeezed on the inside. He nevertheless managed to climb back up to fourth at the finish.
His last heat he started from second on the grid. Grabbing the lead around the outside of turn 1, Eddie managed to hold the le lead for the first lap before being passed by the flying Dave Peathers. This became third when championship leader, Brian Trott, passed him two laps later. Eddie nevertheless managed to stick with the leaders, showing a good turn of pace. His only shock came on the last lap when a slow moving backmarker didn’t see Eddie trying to pass and nearly put him on the grass.
His heat results put him in tenth place straight into the A final. Making an initially good start, going round the outside of everybody, Eddie briefly got up to seventh before being squeezed onto the outside and dropping back to nineteenth.
Eddie then got involved in the scarp for the mid-field places, gaining a few and dropping a few. He lost a handful of places when he was again shoved off-line on lap 7 but made progress through the field to finish a creditable 18th.
