Both Eddie and his manager have both stated that they are encouraged by the result at Fulbeck last Sunday.
It was the first time that Eddie had raced at the Fulbeck circuit in Lincolnshire and, as most of the drivers had raced there the day before in the endurance race, Eddie had only three laps of practice to get up to speed.
With a careful first qualifying heat, a poor start and a spin in his second and a penalty in his third, Eddie qualified a poor nineteenth on the grid - his worst performance of the season in the Heavyweight class.
He nevertheless managed to fight his way up to a very respectable 7th at the finish.
"I have to be encouraged by my performance. I mean to go to a circuit and only have three laps to learn the circuit, but still show a reasonable turn of speed is a big confidence boost."
His manager echoed these sentiments. "Eddie has proved several times in the past that he has the speed. This year he has improved his consistency and he is now showing great improvements in his race craft. He commented after the last race at Clay that he has been struggling in overtaking because of a lack of race craft but he certainly started to put that right last week."
Eddie himself admitted that he made a real effort to improve himself in the final. "It was during the Italian Grand Prix the week before and I remember Martin Brundle make some comment about how one of the drivers was wasting too much energy weaving behind the car infront. I thought to myself 'Hey I do that' and so I made a concious effort not to and to be more forceful in my moves - not be a pussy!"
Eddie has said that he is hoping for better things in the last two races. "They are both circuits I know so I have to hope for better things really."
