Eddie admits that budget constraints over the past couple of seasons have hampered his ability to move forward as much as he would have hoped. Speaking on Web4Sport prior to the upcoming race at Hoddesdon, the young Brit talked frankly about his desire to compete in more races but his increasingly diminishing budget won’t allow it.
“For sure I would like to do more [racing] and it’s frustrating that I can’t. The sad truth is that despite making huge cutbacks over the last couple of years, I’m still worse off than I was a couple of years ago. If I had it my way I would do much more than I am at the moment. It’s quite clear that being as limited as I am in terms of track time means that I’m missing out.”
When asked if this included sprint racing, Eddie was quick in his reply.
“Definitely! The only reason I stopped racing in the Sprint championship was that I couldn’t justify the cost. Of course as soon as I stopped they split the series into Prems, Heavies and Lights and it’s galling to see guys I often beat now fighting for the championship.”
Eddie went on to say that big changes need to be made in certain areas and his own priorities need to shift if he is ever to move forward.
“The situation I’m in at the moment is one I shouldn’t be in! Given the position I’m in and the few other dependencies I have I should easily be able to afford to race in both the Sprint and the Endurance series and still have plenty left over for things like the Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans and other one-off’s. The fact that I’m struggling to do as little as I am, often at the detriment of my personal life, is just ridiculous. Things need to seriously improve before next season and I’ll be doing everything in my power to ensure that I get to do more racing next year.
“I need to start looking at what is in my best interest and need to sort things to ensure that I can continue to do more and achieve more success in the future.”
Despite his harsh comments, Eddie has said that there are a few things in the pipeline this year.
