Eddie was absolutely furious with himself for throwing away third position in heat 1.
"I would rather have started further back on the grid in the first heat while I learnt the circuit, but during the three practice laps I found a reasonable line and could see where I was quicker than the guys in front of me. I thought I saw a gap going into turn 1, but it closed too quickly for me to do anything about and I just locked up. It was a very stupid mistake to make and it ruined the rest of the day for me". Were Eddie's words after the event.
Despite his criticism, Eddie put in solid performances in the rest of his heats, despite a slight mechanical glitch in heat 3, which dropped him back down the grid.
