Eddie declared himself happy with his first run in a 2009 spec kart after a successful and incident free shakedown test at Rye House yesterday.
Getting back behind the wheel for the first time since the final race of 2008, this was Eddie’s first taste of the new 115cc power plant and also gave him a chance to test his fitness after his Winter recuperation. Eddie said it was a successful campaign in both areas.
“I like the new engines; They feel very crisp. I can’t say that I noticed a huge amount of difference in performance. The only place where it was really noticeable for me was coming out of the final corner, where it just picked up a lot quicker.
“Other than that, the test was successful. I managed to put in lots of consistent laps and re-acquainted myself with a kart after such a long break. The good news is that my ribs didn’t give me any gyp so that is a good sign. I guess the real test will be the race at Buckmore on Sunday.”
Eddie will compete in the opening round of the Open Championship this Sunday alongside Kieran McCullough and Lee Clackett before the Premier Endurance and Sprint season kicks off the following week.
