The last round of the championship was contested at Buckmore Park on Sunday and proved to be the most difficult weekend of the year. Both the rookie championship and the main championship were up for grabs, although having made the A final at Lydd, Eddie was no longer in contention for either title.
Although the racing got underway in dry weather, the track was still extremely wet from earlier in the day. Eddie started third on the grid for his first heat and made a good start to get up to second at the first corner befor running wide at the first hairpin and being crowded out down in the mid field. He later compounded this error by spinning and having to climb up the field to finish 10th.
The second heat was even worse. Starting down in 11th, Eddie again made a good start to get into the top 5 before being nudged into a tyre wall at the fast chicane. Another spin followed demoting Eddie to 14th.
The third heat was held in rapidly fading light and this time Eddie stayed out of trouble to finish a sensible 7th, again having started 11th. These poor heat performances put Eddie only 21st on the grid in the B final.
The final was held completely in the dark and to make things even more interesting it started raining heavily. Eddie drove sensibly, making no mistakes, and climbed up the field to finish a respectible 9th.
Eddie stayed on to watch the A final and witnessed Trevor Randall dominate the race to clinch the championship in truly brilliant style.
