What started out as a promising day ultimately turned into disaster for Eddie at the opening round of the season at Buckmore Park. Eddie started the day well, having been placed 12th on the grid in heat 1 to move up to 6th.
Eddie's second heat produced the same result. After starting third, Eddie took the lead into turn 1 but immediately ran slightly wide to let reigning champion Trevor Randall and a couple of other karts through.
Things started to go slightly down hill from there, however. Starting 14th in his third heat, Eddie was lucky not to be knocked off the track by a couple of other erratic drivers. Subsequently ended up 10th.
All this put Eddie 6th on the grid in the B final. Alas, it was to be a short race - only lasting until the first corner. Suspecting throttle problems on the warm-up laps, it completely stuck open in turn 1, throwing Eddie into the tyre wall and ending his day. Eddie did manage to get back to the pits and change kart but ultimately finished 2 laps behind the leaders.
Eddie was philosophical after the race. "These things happen. I'm not upset or angry about it, its a long season and this is just a minor setback. The only thing that I am a little annoyed about is myself. I knew the kart wasn't right from the warm up laps but didn't change the kart. Still, on the positive side, I have more points than I did this time last year!"
For the fan club members, a full race report with comments and the latest gossip, will be released tomorrow.
Eddie is next in action at Whilton Mill in Northants for testing next Saturday.
