For the second race running, a potentially good result was ended before the end of the first lap after Eddie spun out of second position at turn two.
Eddie suffered throttle failure at the opening round at Buckmore Park two weeks ago after not reporting the problem during the warm up laps, and he ruined another chance of making the A final after losing it at turn 2 at Whilton Mill on the opening lap of the final.
The qualifying heats showed promise. Eddie starting 15th in heat 1 and making steady progress before being knocked onto the grass by another kart and dropping back to finish 15th. The second heat was better, with Eddie starting 5th and working hs way up to the top 3 before again being pushed off line on the last lap. A fifth place finish was a little disappointing.
The third heat was much better, with Eddie starting 9th and making a great start to get up to fifth at turn three, passing 2001 champion Luigi Mazza in the process. This was short lived as the race was re-started due to karts further back pitting before the flag was dropped. At the re start, Eddie again made a good start and climbed up to 6th. After lap 1 he was up to fifth and slowly realing Randall and Mazza in. Those two were subsequently given penalties and Eddie was classified 3rd.
This all put Eddie 2nd in the B final. As with round 1, this was short lived as he spun at the first hairpin. Eddie did manage to recover to finish a disappointing 20th.
"I was absolutely gutted" were Eddie's comments after the race. "I just couldn't believe my stupidity. I was under no pressure, I was in a good position and I just threw it away! What makes it even more annoying is that this is two races in a row where I have had a good grid position and thrown it away within the first two corners."
Some people thought that it wasn't as simple as that. "Clint Brennen came up after the race and apologised for clipping me. I know that he had spun off at the same corner at the exit but I'm pretty sure that I spun off through my own stupidity so I don't know quite what to make of that."
Despite this error which Eddie says was completely his fault, he wasn't entirely happy with the first two heats.
"I was a little bit annoyed because if I hadn't been pushed onto the grass by other people in the first two heats, I would probably have qualified straight into the A final."
The Eddie Hall newsletter will be published tomorrow. This will have full race reports and news.
